It’s the fifth-biggest travel show in the world, and it’s just opened. The East Mediterranean International Tourism and Travel exhibition – better known as EMITT – has just been officially opened by a collection of high-profile speakers, before setting off as part of a VIP tour of the show floor.
Members of the party including Minister of Tourism and Culture Prof. Dr. Numan Kurtulmuş, former UNWTO head Taleb Rifai, Mayor of Istanbul Mevlüt Uysal and Governor Vasip Şahin, President of the Turkish Tourism Investors Association Oya Narin, President of TUROFED Osman Ayık, and President of the Federal Association of Germany’s Tourism Sector Michael Frenzel, and many more, spoke on where travel is today and where it will head in future ahead of a trip around the exhibition.
There’s a lot for them to see – EMITT is huge this year, with over 1,000 destinations, operators, service providers and many more showing what they have to offer to an enormous visitor base. Preliminary visitor registrations are already well above previous years – guaranteeing a bigger and better audience.
Many of these visitors have been especially invited to the show as part of the Hosted Buyer programme, where visitors are hosted at the event and helped to arrange a bespoke programme of meetings with the exhibitors they want to reach. Over 2,500 visitors applied to become hosted buyers, and 600 of these were approved to the programme – leading to more than 6,000 appointments being scheduled across the four days of EMITT.
The opening ceremony was just the first event of a packed agenda for EMITT this year, with panels on gastrotourism and how to use it to market cities, the importance of domestic tourism, the future of travel agencies, travel trends and insights, online sales in emerging markets, and more.
